My 7 y/o has a mild stutter and I wanted to get some insight Hi Everyone! I've got a first grader with a mild stutter. It's not that bad but I do think it's getting "worse" (but still not that bad). It usually comes out when she's telling me a long narrative like how her day went. Sometimes it comes out when she's reading out loud or when she's really excited. I've always been told that this is normal for kids and they usually grow out of it. She's 7 and she still has it. It's also progressing as I mentioned before so I feel like I should get her help. She also says her Rs like Elmer Fudd if that is relevant. With these two issues, she still does fine academically. She reads above her grade level, engages with her friends and teachers and has a healthy school life. We all know though, kids get older and sometimes they're not so kind so if this is something I can help my daughter with, I will! So if anybody has any insight to give me I'd love to hear from you. I've gotten a referral for a speech pathologist so I'm going to get her evaluated. Since it's so mild, I don't know if her stuttering will "come out" at her appointment! I haven't heard anything from her teacher yet but with it being close to the end of the school year, I'm guessing they'll just ignore me anyway. Hopefully this post is allowed. We don't have any friends or family who have this issue so it's kind of hard to talk to someone about this. Thanks for reading!
