I can't relate to this, but I do know that my stutter is the worst when I am speaking with my parents. I never knew why and I still don't. Now, I have been trying to explain to them my speech journey to help them better understand what it is I go through and how it makes me feel. Maybe you can educate your mom next time, if you haven't already.
