Research by Dr Gerald Maguire showing that stuttering can be treated with medication More specifically, with **atypical antipsychotics** Dr Maguire (a psychiatrist who stutters) wrote a paper detailing how **antipsychotics can help effectively treat stuttering for those who have excessive levels of dopamine in their brain**. This is the case as this type of medication reduces the amount of dopamine in the brain, which is speculated by many as the cause of stuttering in many individuals. **Has anyone had any success (or otherwise) with these types of medications?** Please feel free to share any experiences.
