If my intrusive obsessive thought is a pink elephant and I want to stop thinking about it like: 'stop thinking about the elephant' then I keep thinking about it. I have a question. In my experience, if I focus on the intention to move my legs or arms, then I am not aware of how my legs or arms are moving. Are you aware of it? If yes, then you can re-try this exercise until you did it correctly where it's subconscious and then apply this 'fluency feeling' of intention to move your legs/arms to 'intention to move your tongue during a speech block' where it's effortless and natural. Additionally, if people don't have intention to move their mouth, then by definition, they won't be able to speak. See this [diagram](https://i.imgur.com/nElRklJ.png) that explains that intention is a fluency law to do subconscious actions. Even non-stutterers need to have intention to do subconscious actions like moving their tongue, whereas people who stutter stop focusing on intention to move their tongue, instead they focus on secondary behavior, substituting words, tension and feeling bothered. These secondary behaviors, reactions and unhelpful interventions are explained in this [diagram](https://i.imgur.com/upOYEyB.png). This then results in a speech block.
