Any ideas to help with speech blocks? Here is what I have tried so far I started getting speech blocks at age 18 after a rough period in my life. I sorted myself out through self therapy (after therapy didn't work) however the speech blocks remained. Here's some info on my situation: I have learned not to fear blocking however it still happens, therefore the blocks aren't caused by fear. I no longer avoid any speaking situations, however it is not possible for me not to avoid some words as I won't be able to start them. I tend not to be able to start sentences or say particular words. I have accepted that I stutter, and I am open about it with others, however this doesn't seem to help. I have learned not to care what others think about my speech or me as a person, however this also didn't improve fluency. Developing a more positive attitude towards speaking didn't really help either. Slowing speech doesn't help, nor does using any airflow techniques. On my own I am fluent and on certain drugs I am fluent, which means the problem is mental. Fluency varies with person to person and situation to situation. There are days where I can't say a single sentence and good days where I'm about 70% fluent. When a block happens or is going to happen, there is a feeling inside my head and I can not explain it. At the moment I am recording all the times when I block and I'm trying to find links.
