An alternative solution... I've had a ranging stutter my whole life. In my childhood I could barely speak, and since then it's been anywhere from a 3 to 100 blocks a day, mostly silent. I've had speech therapy, it's never worked. So I have always been on the lookout for solutions. Reading aloud for an hour a night has proved useful, but it halves my reading speed. Breathing and meditation haven't yet worked for me, but I'll keep trying. I am a very experimental kind of guy, and was quite young when I first smoked weed. The next day I stuttered significantly less. I've been a habitual weed smoker for nearly a decade now, and I'm pretty sure it helps. Weed is quite a mild drug, and tbh I found a pretty similar thing with alcohol, but the idea that drugs had an effect stayed with me. And then I ate magic mushrooms. A fantastic experience, I really would recommend it, but it was the morning after where I was truly, soberly, astounded. I felt - as many others did - clean, like I'd just been through therapy, like my mind had been to the spa. Increased focus, increased appreciation, no stress, no paranoia, no violent fantasies, etc. Most importantly, there was no stutter. Nothing. At all, for a a month. Then my enlightenment started to fade and I lapsed back into usual old spliffandtea. I was very interested in this, and have tried shrooms a few more times, each time with the same effect. I have looked around and found a lot of similar accounts. Psilocybin (the active ingredient) is responsible for treating a lot of poorly understood neurological conditions like ours, and all the accounts I've read have been very similar to mine. More research is definitely required, but so far this is very promising. So, /r/stutter, have you any thoughts? Any similar experiences?
