Anyone have a history with drugs and alcohol and any comments on how it affected your stutter? I'm 20 and have experimented heavily with all sorts of drugs. In the end, I find they do not help my stutter, actually the opposite. Except for mushrooms, which when I tripped I was 100% fluent(it was insane), everything else, except alcohol too I guess, has exacerbated my stutter. I'd love to hear some other experiences! EDIT: thanks for sharing everybody, I see amphetamines are a trend, which is interesting because it seems to have the opposite effect on me, it makes my mind race more than it already does and jsut increases my blocks and anxiety. Xanax however, which i'm currently prescribed but take rarely, doesn't seem to directly help my speech, but just relaxes me and my emotions, but not my speech. For me, I think it all comes down to fear, being afraid to stutter out in the open and be exposed, that's also my theory for why some drugs decrease this fear factor and thus, fluency.
