How do you deal with "blocking"? I don't repeat syllables at all, I just freeze up at the start of a word. It kinda looks like I've just stopped talking, because I'm completely silent while trying to push the word out. I find that with stutterers who repeat syllables, it's obvious they have a stutter, and so people are usually very understanding and empathetic. With blocking however, it looks like I've just stopped talking and am just staring at them, which confuses people. They usually get annoyed or weirded out and usually ask me if to respond or ask me why I'm not answering. This obviously makes me more anxious, which makes it even harder to get the word out. I'm curious if anyone has dealt with something similar and how they dealt with the above situation. The obvious solution would be to explicitly tell them that I stutter, but I don't want to preface every conversation with that, especially minor conversations with strangers. I would like to have conversations where I just talk and the stutter becomes apparent on its own. I'm not really looking for techniques to stop the blocking, I'm looking for a solution to the situation mentioned above.
