I’m a teacher and my principal accused me of “ad libbing” when I stutter and try to break my block. When she first made that comment, I felt so defeated, and wanted to tell her that I was not “ad libbing”. However, I did not have the confidence to do so. Now that I’ve been attending speech therapy, I have the confidence to tell her about my comments about my speech block. I made self-advocacy and education two big goals in speech therapy, and I intend to educate others about stuttering, and advocate for myself.
