it doesn't seem like you even read my comment before replying. you haven't actually engaged with my claims. i never denied your experience in any way. you said your son's stuttering was "totally psychological." unless psychogenic, this literally is not true. you made a false claim about stuttering. it's not just false to me. it's just false. nothing i said is unsupported by research. i do not need to know your son's experience to make that claim, because that is simply the nature of stuttering. the main points of my comment were that 1) recovery does not prove cause 2) environmental/psychological factors can influence the expression of stuttering without being the origin and 3) "stopping" stuttering as a framing is risky and explains the silence. please, point out where i negated your reality. i never said recovery is impossible or that something is wrong with wanting improvement. i want my stutter gone, too. i simply explained why people might have given such a response based on what *you* told me what you said. this subreddit, as you can learn by looking around, is more interested in "support" in the sense of coping with day-to-day life, sharing experiences, emotional regulation, survival tips, etc. rather than achieving fluency. many of the people in this subreddit have tried nearly everything, and so, sometimes people can react defensively. you're not in the wrong for asking a question. yes, everyone is different but that doesn't change that stuttering is a neurodevelopmental disorder with high spontaneous recovery in some people and persistence in others. i'm glad your son's condition improved. but you can share your experience without spreading misinformation.
