Do you stutter more when you weren't expecting to speak?

Do you stutter more when you weren't expecting to speak? I find that if I didn't think I'd need to talk to someone or reply to a conversation or question, I stammer alot more than if I know I'm going into a situation/event and I might have to talk. I'm curious if anyone is the same or even the opposite?
