Aubrey!! This reply might be all over the place, sorry if it is! I have a stutter. Like you, I've had it since around 4 or 5. I'll be 36 in a few weeks. Also similarly, it was a constant bother. Hell, I even have family with a stutter. My uncle has arguably the worst stutter I've ever experienced. What could be a 1-minute conversation for others could end up being double if not more between the two of us. Despite what I wanted, it never went away of course, but I've learned to live with that. I definitely did stutter during my wedding vows, but that's okay!! It's part of who I am, and my wife sees past the stutter. She's always been very understanding of it, only ever really asking questions out of pure curiosity. Ordering food can still be a pain, but... c'mon I can't just stop living life! It's a part of us but we can't let it control us. I've done my share of things similar to "what's your name again?" because whatever letter gets stuck on my tongue. Hell, for two years I couldn't say the name of the company I worked for without breaking a sweat. Do you stutter while singing along to a song? If you find that helps, maybe look into SpeachEasy. It's a little earpiece that mimics the Choral Effect which is what happens when people sing along with something. But I'll leave you with this - people who matter don't care, and people who care don't matter. I wish you all the best and if you have any questions about how to deal with certain things feel free to reach out.
