I've tried it. I can't say it doesn't work but sometimes it does work. It works for me when I am relaxed. For me diaphramatic breathing is the best. I try to use diaphramatic breathing even when I'm reading aloud something. Try out different methods and stick to one that makes you feel comfortable. Do your own research on that topic. That's my advice.
