That is common. In school, I once acted a play out in a Bullwinkle voice solely for this reason. It had nothing to do with the content of the play. Nowadays, I don't live life with an accent but I have a dumb voice I use that happens to reduce stuttering too. As said elsewhere, this and all tricks will likely not last with overuse.
