Advocating for Myself: Workplace Bullying and Being Picked on for Stuttering Hi everyone, I have a mild stutter, but some days it can be difficult for me to get my words together and talk. I have a co-worker who knows about my speech impediment and still continues to interrupt me, talk over me, talk at me, dismiss me, and then patronize me. I live in Georgia, which is a Right to Work state with no unions allowed. I work in a school district office and this co-worker tends to do this in front of everyone, where I am struggling to make my point and where she continues to interrupt and berate me. I noticed that some of the people in the office are joining her in patronizing me and it has been making my workplace a toxic place to be in. My plan of action is to go to an adult speech therapist and get a diagnosis. I want formal writing that shows and explains my condition. I plan to use the school district email system to email my co-workers in the office a copy of that plan and "nicely" inform them of my speech impediment. That way, there will be evidence that it was communicated with documentation. If the ring leader co-worker decides to pick on me again, then I would have more power in filing a complaint against her. Has anyone ever done this before? As in, have you had to get formal documentation of your condition to prevent further bullying?
