I work part time in a pizzeria as a delivery driver where talking to strangers is a necessity. Thankfully my boss and coworkers understand it's not something I can control. I think if anything, being forced to be outgoing helped me improve on my social anxiety and just talking to others in general. I've never been fired for it but I've heard it's illegal to fire or not hire someone purely over certain disabilities unless it truly interferes with a job, stuttering definitely falls under the category. (Anyone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on this!)
