It's basically exhaling a little bit of air just before speaking. I always stuttered with the word "parrot" (and many other words beginning with consonants). I couldn't actually begin saying it because I couldn't say the first letter (when I was alone in my room, no stress involved...). Then I saw a video about this breathing technique and tried exhaling before speaking. And I was immediately able to say this word and many other "feared" words without stutter. I managed to use this successfully in school in front of the class but after a few months I began stuttering with words beginning with vowels and this continued for over a year until the hotel job. I overcame the vowels by just using more air. So it's no magic and you have to constantly work on it until exhaling becomes almost subconscious.
