The whole mind-body thing and our understanding of consciousness is still very basic. I find myself in the camp that our bodies are within our consciousness (monistic idealism: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idealism). So yea, it depends how you view reality. The body and the mind go hand in hand, one effecting the other. So the best answer is probably "both."
