If I didn't stutter I wouldn't have met all my friends who stutter. They have jobs like history teacher, scientist, nurse.. anything. It only holds you back if you let it. For me I feel like people are more willing to be open to me, because they feel like I am volnurable by showing my stutter. So don't hide it, you will gain respect if you show it.
