It’s a good question, and one I often struggle with. Stuttering has changed my life and set me down a completely different path. With that said, I am well into my career as a senior creative director, even with occasional speech impediments. Would I have still done this? Most likely not, but I got lucky. That said, there are aspects of daily life that are very difficult for me. Doing anything on the phone is tough. Ordering in a restaurant or coffee shop is tough for me. Speaking quickly or in a ‘on the spot’ moment is really hard for me. I’m not out here comparing disabilities, but I’m not gonna say I have the same challenges or require the same attention as some that are more ‘serious.’ That said, stuttering should still be recognized on some level within the world of disabilities. I would gather a fair amount of people, stutterers included, don’t know it’s considered one by the ADA
