I’m my third year of an astrophysics and engineering physics dual degree with a pretty bad stutter. I stutter much worse when I meet people. A lot of people felt pity towards me and felt like they were better than me. I couldn’t stand that at first but I met a bunch of people that shared similar interests with me and they saw me for who I am as a person, and not as a stutter. I have a lot of really good friends and I’m having a great time honestly. I am in a leadership role in a research group and honestly it’s very intimidating with my stutter. I was terrified to speak to them or do mic if any real leadership or speaking roles in college. I realized however that it’s not how I say something but what I am saying. All in all it’s been a learning curve but it’s honestly great now. If shits heavy the first few weeks, don’t get down on yourself; it will get better.
