For myself, I've always found it *at least* mildly annoying when someone steps in as I'm talking and tries to guess the word that I'm trying to say as I'm stuck on it. It turns a normal (for a stutterer) conversation into a demented game of verbal charades. Even worse, it tends to pack even more anxiety into what's likely to be an already socially nerve-wracking event. If I'm talking to someone I've just met, I realize they're probably just trying to be helpful and they don't know any better. And that's fair. My personal preference is that the person I'm talking to does absolutely nothing when I'm stuck on a word. I don't care if I'm two feet away looking like I'm having a goddamn seizure as I try to get my vocal cords to fist-fuck their way through one hard-consonant sound or another. Just lemme get through it. My facial expressions may resemble that of a frat-boy trying to mouth-sex their way through a particularly nasty bit of hazing at the local bottom-tier frat house, but make like [Elsa and *let it go.*](https://youtu.be/moSFlvxnbgk?t=1m7s) Kudos to you for taking the time to ask other stutterers for advice! If you feel comfortable enough, just ask what she prefers you do. It might feel a little weird having to broach the subject at all but it's absolutely worth it in the long run.
