Hey there! Thanks for reaching out. It’s hard for me to give you an exact goal because I don’t know what your student’s stuttering looks like/sounds like. With that said, I would stay away from fluency enhancing goals. A generic stuttering modification goal might look like this: “By (insert date), student will demonstrate the ability to decrease tension during moments of stuttering by exhibiting independent use of stuttering modification strategies in 4/5 opportunities during structured conversations in the speech room (or another setting that you think is appropriate for the student). Then, you can trial different strategies like voluntary stuttering, cancellations, pull-outs, etc. the whole idea is to desensitize them to stuttering so they’re not avoiding social situations! And, to stutter easier with less tension. Does that help? Otherwise there’s a lot of counseling involved and you could even work with the mental health provider on a goal surrounding avoidance of social situations.
