My go to jokes at work about my stuttering are: 1) When my mic actually glitches on a Zoom/Teams call and my voice sounds mechanical someone will say, “I can’t understand you, you sound like a robot.” I’ll sometimes reply “No, that’s just my speech impediment Tara, but thanks for noticing…” 2) Blaming my stutter for some minor error I made or something I forgot to do. I love watching the wheels spin in peoples heads while they process this. Here is a quick example. MANAGER: Bill, did you remember to send that email about the remaining work on the Anderson account? ME: Sorry Tara, it was my speech impediment. I’ll get that email out right now. To be fair I only joke like this with my core team, as we are pretty close.
