Absolutely. To me it was about gaining confidence and overcoming my shyness through desensitization therapy. Though I did scripted acting first and learned that way. I have done some improv and gotten some training in it but that was only when i had already been acting for years. To be honest for most people improv classes is the best way into acting because it teaches you to become a character of your own choosing which is a precursor to assuming a character created by someone else. For stutterers its a potential nightmare. If you know your lines and just rote memorize at first you have one less thing to worry about. You don't have to search for the words and thus you concentrate only on delivery not the content. It worked for me so this is completely anecdotal. Shoot high.
