You might not have the authority to require it, but I don't think that should stop you from asking. I get that has a lot to do with the people you work with, company culture, and your own comfort level, but most people can be pretty accommodating. Do you follow a scrum methodology? If so, it might be a good topic to bring up during a sprint retro. A more passive option is to just turn yours on and see if anybody else follows your lead.
