Yes, it’s that perfection thing. In my case, my parents only valued me when I had no blemish. My stuttering caused them shame and I internalized guilt for destroying the pride they enjoyed by having a perfect, beautiful little girl. How could we ever not adopt self shame. I was fortunate though to grab the gold ring on the merry-go-round by being married to a Prince Charming for 54 years.
