I have a moderate stutter & I sat next to a person with a severe stutter in high school. During start of the semester introductions, he ofc had trouble saying his name & when I had trouble saying mine everybody thought I was mocking him. They all laughed and I said "I stutter and you shouldn't laugh." The looks on their faces serves as a very precious memory to me :) Always stand up for yourself. I find that about 1/10 people will change their behavior. Everyone else is ignorant so I try to focus on the 1.
