I'm concerned that you're coming here with this question. Stutterers get a bad taste in their mouth from inadequate speech therapy. Many of us see public school speech therapists, then other speech therapists, and see little to no progress. This leaves us with the idea that speech therapy is ineffective. Let me be clear... I *know* that speech therapy can help even severe stutterers achieve fluency. Everything I've stated to this point is based on my own experiences. Is your teen coming of her own volition or is she being sent by her parents? Listen to her. What are your goals? What are her goals? How are you going to approach this? Is fluency a goal? I'll always remember that first (and only) time I used the DAF. As I got dialed in and was able to speak fluently for the first time. Being shown that I was capable of fluent speech was quite moving. But that was in my teens. And I didn't get fluent over the couple of years of therapy that I went to at that time. It wasn't until I went back and really worked at my fluency that I saw improvement. I'm curious... As a student, what are the treatment protocols these days? My experiences are from the 90s.
