Caffeine causes a surge in dopamine levels in the brain, which affects our speech motor pathways. A surge in dopamine negatively affects our speech because stutterers inherently have an imbalance of dopamine in the brain. I’ve cut caffeine completely and getting better sleep and I’m a lot more fluent. If I drink caffeine my fluency gets really bad.
