I've been going through exactly what your boyfriend is going through right now. My anxiety started picking up a couple years ago due to moving up in my job. I noticed I was stuttering a little more about a year ago and it just slowly started to snowball from there. It was worse even around my family so I knew something was wrong. I started seeing a psychiatrist for my anxiety/depression and got myself into speech therapy. I've got my depression fixed for the most part and I just started a SNRI for anxiety. It's only been three weeks so I've got to give it a couple more weeks to fully feel the effect. I just needed to calm the F down because I would tense up so fast and that sounds like what your man is going through. The anxiety fuels the stutter and then the stutter fuels the anxiety. It's incredibly frustrating and just wears us down. I'd recommend looking into a SNRI (I started Effexor) and talk to a doctor about it. It can't hurt to look into because anxiety isn't a quick fix. Best of luck to you two.
