I stutter barely at all when I read out loud. I think it's because it's a more controlled setting, so I'm mentally prepared and take it really slow. It's the sponteneity of conversation that throws me off, like if I can't think about what I'm going to say for a while I just stumble through it. I can relate to the thing about your parents though. I was looking through old stuff I have and on my kindergarten report cards the teacher recommened that I be taken to a speech therapist or expert or something. Never happened. Sucks to know that it was noticeable way back then and something could have been done, but it is what it is. Instead of that, my parents just told to me breath and talk slowly, as if that works. I did spend time with a child psychlogist when I was like 8, but she wasn't an expert so she just old me to read out loud.
