Yep. I’ve been a lawyer for 25 years. I’ve had 4 jobs and I stuttered in each interview. (Clerkship, horrible firm, amazing firm, adjunct teaching while at amazing firm). My advice is own it. Don’t try to hide it. A great lesson I learned from my daughter (also a stutterer) is to just tell people up front. It lightens the burden because you don’t have to try to hide it. Also, learn the palm slide. When you get to a block, slide your hand across the table or down your leg or something. It helps smooth the path through a block. I’ve stuttered in courts around my state. Not one judge has given me a hard time. Other lawyers have—but they underestimated me. They also missed the great blessing of stuttering: you never come across as slick or insincere. I’ve also met other lawyers who stutter. This is doable. Feel free to shoot me message if you have questions.
