It's weird how we stutter when talking to someone on the phone versus recording something on the phone I know I'm not the only one with this phenomenon. When you're by yourself, you can speak with ease. No stuttering. But not in front of another person. That's when you stutter. I've heard various theories of this like when you're in front of another person, your amygdala is engaged and it triggers fight-or-flight. But I don't think it's that. What makes this phenomenon really weird is when you compare the act of talking to someone on a phone, versus recording a personal message for yourself on your phone's mic. Two identitical activities (talking into a phone), but vastly different outcomes. I just think its that when someone picks up the phone and says " Hello? ", you are giving yourself one exact window of time in which you feel you have to throw in your speech. And then you start stuttering. If we only we could just recreate the same dynamics of talking into a recording app, when you are talking to a person.....that would solve the stutter.
