Used to happen often to me too. My way of dealing with it has been "not to break". I just keep talking. Why don't you stutter when you yell, whisper or sing? It is because you continuously press out air from your lungs, making it impossible to get a block. I just say: Hello-my-name-is-meriador, in one single exhale. Yes I also get hangups sometimes(especially since my real name starts with a vowel), but this works for me.
