I do not know if my stutter is genetic or not, I am a guy. The only stutterers in my family have followed my mother's mothers family, almost seems to follow the women. My grandmother had a brother she told me once he stuttered, her sister had a son that stuttered, my mother had me (of course I stutter) and my sister has a son that stutters. I have two kids, and they both are fine, no speech problems at all. My grandmother came from a generation of people who were ashamed of people like me, never talked about it, never acknowledged it, and let it get buried with them. My nephew, who stutters, has something I never had as a kid growing up... a family full of people who knows all about stuttering, knows how to treat people who do it, and he grew up has a good life. I am 54 now, I met my first stutterer when I was mid 30's. My nephew has known me all his life, his mom and dad have been around stuttering so much, they're comfortable with it. Don't let it get in the way of you doing what you want to do, if you want kids, have them. Don't let the beast win.
