I haven't tried it but I don't think it would affect me much since I'm a nightly stoner. However, I am prescribed Gabapentin (800 mg) "off-label" for anxiety and that stuff works pretty well. It helps me relax and I don't feel drugged up or lethargic. It's a pretty safe drug from what my Psychiatrist tells me and I've been on it for maybe a year. I've never had an issue. I don't drink alcohol so I don't know how those two would mix.
