The one thing I would say is don’t patronize him. Don’t talk to him with a softer or concerned voice. This will just make him not feel like a strong man. If I were you I would still call on him to speak in front of everybody if people are sharing. If he senses you aren’t calling on him it might make him feel awkward. Other than that I think you’re doing well.
