I was once hooked up to an EEG for a research project, and at the end we had some free time. The researcher asked me to do some various tasks like singing, reading aloud and conversing. When I sang (or rather, tried to sing), he showed my how a completely separate part of my brain started firing compared to normal talking. I didn't do any talking to myself, but I'd imagine the results would be similar to when singing.
