Hey, first of all, I want to tell you that I can totally relate with you. I had a similar experience as yours. To be caught off guard by the emergence of stutter, so to speak, can be very disheartening. You should see a speech therapist. It helps you understand why stuttering happens and gain control over it, over a period of time. Also, please spend time meditating or doing mindfulness exercises that help you calm down. Stuttering is almost always exacerbated by anxiety, stress, and anger. Or even just heightened emotions. As for people, there really isn't much you can do, I am afraid. I remember a time when my own mother used to make fun of me while my dad was super supportive. Anyway, times have changed. I have people in my life in front of whom I can stutter but still feel like it's a normal part of life. You will have come across a lot of mean folks, but you will also come across a lot of lovely folks who will make you feel like your stutter does not define you in any way at all. I promise. Be easy on yourself.
