In order for any of this to make sense is to understand the importance of the Valsalva response and when to use it. The Valsalva response is mainly used to close the vocal cords to stiffen up the upper body for heavy lifting. You are not to use the response when speaking but stutterers do it all the time. Fluent speakers do not activate the response when speaking allowing them to have an easy and comfortable airflow which allows for fluent speech. The stutterers activates the response inappropriately causing interrupted and stress airflow causing what we label as stuttering. Once you learn how to appropriately activate the response you are on your way to fluency. I would research the effects of the Valsalva response on stuttering.
