Thanks for the advice. I think I will apply for this opportunity at this stage, worst case I can always drop out. If I get denied I get closure. I do think a different approach towards my speech therapy could be good. Two weeks ago I was thinking about seeing a different therapist due to a variety of things, I looked around and couldn't really find many others in my area. There are honestly some aspects of my therapist that had me questioning... For one there is somewhat of a language barrier, additionally, she also speaks to my parents about certain things we've discussed during the sessions - granted, I haven't asked them to stop, and it has been somewhat helpful at times, another occurrence was that she asked my dad for a job on behalf of her husband - I doubt that would fly in North America.. What generally goes on in your speech therapy sessions? This is the first therapist I've seen so I really don't know what to expect. Every session just feels very routine and I'm not sure if this is very productive for moving forward. It almost feels like I'm just going through the motions and not accomplishing very much. Perhaps another speech therapist is another avenue I should go down. I have also discussed with my dad and he thinks that medication would defenitely be worth pursuing. He raised a few concerns regarding my therapist as well - she cancels very often. Could be good to take charge of it and find another therapist myself instead of having my parents handle it. Thanks again for the advice, this is a great community we have here 🙂.
