Well I'd say keep trying to find a job, I don't believe avoidance is good, it's not about powering through, it's about coping with a stutter that's big going away, everyone's in the same boat you have a stutter but everyone has their own problems. My stutter is tied to anxiety and tension so I find meditation helps alot to decrease my anxiety and increase day to day fluency. Just take ten minutes every day go sit in a quiet place with your eyes closed, breath slowly and try to relax. It does work for me over time Maybe offer to do more around the house to earn your keep so to speak until you find a job. You'll feel like less of a bum in your own mind which will help you and maybe she'll notice the effort and lighten up a little.
