There are organizations like the [National Stuttering Association](http://www.westutter.org) and [Stuttering Foundation](http://www.stutteringhelp.org/) that promote awareness of stuttering, you could check out their websites and see if you can get involved with them locally. (Assuming you are in the US...the [British Stammering Association](http://www.stammering.org/) is another great organization, and there are similar organizations in AUS and Canada.) My NSA group (Chicago) feels really strongly about the awareness issue so as a local group we're trying to do a couple of things to educate the public. We're doing stuff on LinkedIn, with local media, and arranging speaking engagements at schools to talk to students about stuttering. And, although it might sound a little counter-intuitive, I believe a great way to promote awareness as an individual is to stutter openly and talk to people about it! Share your story and what stuttering is like (there are so many misconceptions and wrong assumptions out there). Definitely recommend checking out your local NSA chapters and getting plugged in!
