Mod note on medical and chemical discussion

Mod note on medical and chemical discussion Medical and chemical discussions are allowed here. We're all working with a physiological speech disorder, so we welcome medical discussion relevant to that. Likewise, a big part of stuttering culture is a search for a cure and/or effective medications. Therefore, we also welcome those discussions. Emphasis on *discussions*. There are some things we will almost always remove. I'll give some examples below: 1. **Telling someone to try a medication or illegal substance to alleviate their stutter.** This is unexcellent and we don't want it here. We are not doctors and no one here wants to feel liable for allowing it. It's irresponsible. For medication, the appropriate thing to advise would be, "Ask your doctor about this." 2. **Holding a substance or diet up as a cure for stuttering.** There is currently no cure for stuttering. This is dangerous misinformation and will be removed. If you'd like to start a *discussion* on members' experience with a substance or diet, that is acceptable. Saying it's a cure is not. In general, discussion is allowed. Just remember that every person's biology and medical history is different, and that this subreddit's stance aligns with current science, which means we will uphold the fact that there is no cure for stuttering. EDIT: To clarify, compliments of /u/laebot... >"Guys I just tried bath salts and it totally cured my stuttering. You should all try bath salts." **not allowed** >"Hey, I just tried bath salts and noticed it made me more fluent. Has anyone else had this experience?" **allowed**
