My SLP told me she once had a client who was over 50 years old who finally came to see her because they were sick of feeling like a dishonest person. Their spouse of 20 or so years and children had no idea whatsoever at that point. I firmly believe that if my extended family members (on either side) had a stutter similar to mine, they would have sat on it and never shared it with anyone.
