Did you like how stuttering was portrayed in The Waterboy? Hey all, The Waterboy came out when I was 10 or so and instantly became my favourite movie of all time, and it still is. I think Adam Sandler and the script writers/directors absolutely nailed the humour of stuttering. Bobby Boucher's stutter was at once realistic, even Sandler's facial tics trying to get words out and move past blocks, and adorable. It portrayed stuttering in a cute way without being awkward for the viewer. The stuttering jokes have me yelling "YES!" at the TV. Being stuck on "my mama said," explaining a simple process taking way too long, etc. I know the movie's not exactly high art but it made me feel great about stuttering and still does. Even though the main character gets mocked for his speech, I never feel like the joke is on him. The real point of the story is how screwed up everyone else is, which is something I learned growing up. Anyway, I made a poorly put together case for why I love this movie and the stuttering in it in a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkmfawckIWI What's your favourite stuttering movie, and do you like how stuttering was portrayed in The Waterboy?
