I would like to reiterate that, as I said, stuttering and speech impediments are part of a large spectrum. I consider someone with intense speech problems (like myself) and someone with very minor speech problems as both being stutterers and I don’t dismiss their valid concerns just because their speech problems are seemingly easier to deal with than mine. That explains my rationale. With that said, this also explains how there are people in a variety of fields that have speech impediments and they get by. The spectrum of speech impediments is large and varies. I’m not opposed to speech therapy but the speech therapists have told me that, at my age, it wouldn’t likely be that effective considering the speech impediments I have and my age and my brain development being complete. As for the hiring thing… nobody will outright deny a stutterer a job in a developed nation; if they don’t want someone who stutters for the job, they just won’t hire them. They go around discrimination policies by just not outright telling people they are not getting a job because they have a stutter. Unrelated to stuttering, but I believe some people cling to disability discrimination laws a little too much as a saving grace. Because in my limited experience in life, I’ve found that these people often are still not getting the job. It’s just they are never told it’s because of their disability and this protects the company from lawsuits. With that said, there are many people with speech impediments who land good and decent jobs. From what I can gather, generally their speech impediment is on the lower end of that giant scale; this is the case with people in speaking roles. And, just as often, they are in fields where speech isn’t a huge part of the job. Because of other physical ailments, a lot of physical jobs where speech isn’t a big deal are just physically impossible for me to do at this stage in my life. It is what it is. It’s just nice to vent and finally be honest about how it’s impacted my life.
