In my AIT (job training for the US Army) I was the best in my class, the distinguished honor graduate. The problem with that was that I had to give a 5 minute speech in front of higher ranking personnel at our graduation ceremony. Big stage, microphone, podium, etc. Long story short, I stammered quite a bit at the beginning but my classmates and fellow soldiers were very helpful and supportive. They made little gestures and made me smile a bit and I was able to get through the rest of the speech with high fluency. I got off the stage, sat the fuck down and calmed my nerves after that shit.
