I think stuttering therapy now is much more geared towards acceptance, and they teach us a lot of counselling components in graduate school, because let’s be honest, stuttering isn’t correcting an r or s, it’s something that will always be there, so teaching the person how to live with it is essential in therapy. On another note, this is why speech therapists who stutter are much more preferred. I for one am studying to become a speech therapist and stutter! Although it’s mild, it gives me a good perspective that a “regular” clinician wouldn’t have otherwise had.
